SHARON JONES was born and raised in James Brown’s hometown of Augusta, Georgia. Like many great soul singers, including James himself and Aretha, Sharon began singing in church at a very young age. With her natural sense of showmanship, her talent soon brought her beyond the Sunday choir straight to center stage as the lead singer of more than one up-and-coming Funk band. It wasn’t long before she was being booked to perform with the top names in Soul, including the Four Tops, Peaches and Herb, The Drifters, and Maceo Parker. During these years she quickly developed a mastery of her stage presence, learning how to use her smoky sweet voice to captivate audiences and bring them to the dance floor. It is this knack for working the crowd that has kept Sharon in demand with every kind of dance band...

Because we here at Spirit of '68 are in a giving mood, we are giving away 2 pairs of tickets to the sold out Girl Talk show January 16th @ Jake's. All you need to do is join the Spirit of '68 Facebook group and tell us why you deserve free tickets more than anyone else. Most arbitrarily convincing answer wins.

After you are all done sweating your cares away at Sharon Jones @ The Dap Kings, head over to The Farm located on Kirkwood Avene for the official after party. Featuring two floors of DJs spinning the classic soul and funk fire you've come to know and love from the Soul In The Hole crew, the evening will feature guest Djs and admission is $3 or free with a ticket stub.
If that wasn't enough, The Farm has put together a special soul food buffett to soak up the copious amounts of alcohol in your system. The buffett is $15 per plate and consists of:
* country ham and white bean soup w/corn bread
* pulled pork w/ big belly bbq
* chicken gumbo w/ okra and trinity seasoning
* stewed greens w/ local peppered bacon
* dirty rice and peas
* southern coleslaw and potato salad
* apple cobbler
* sweet tea
